Academic and Community Allergists/Immunologists: A Critical Partnership - Twitter summary from #ACAAI18 meeting

@gdm2md gave the Bela Schick Lecture "Academic and Community Allergists/Immunologists: A Critical Partnership"

Dr Marshall: academic and practicing allergists must be partners.

There were 4630 ABAI certified Allergists in the US in 2015 - 4019 were 'patient care', only 281 primarily research.

There are 78 accredited training programs in Allergy/Immunology in the USA. Less than half of the training programs for internal medicine or pediatrics are in institution where there is a full time Allergy/Immunology Faculty.

51% of US allergists are more than 55 years old. 160 A/I fellows from 78 ACGME accredited programs are eligible to sit for ABAI exam per year. There are currently 553 IM and 213 peds residencies in the US. Still have work to do as we look to the future of A/I.

Dr Marshall encourages community-based allergists/immunologists to welcome medical student rotations in their offices.

This is a Twitter summary from #ACAAI18 meeting based on tweets by the following allergists: @kparksmd @DrAnneEllis
